Like most businesses today, we recycle office paper, bottles, and cardboard, but when we talk about sustainability we mean something much more.
The concept of Sustainability centers on a question. Can interconnected ecosystems, organizations, economies, and societies continue indefinitely without responsible planning and renewal?
Green Building & Green Energy
Atomic Object does its work in a century-old former post office. We renovated the building for energy efficiency. We utilized responsible materials in the construction. We also participate in a renewable energy program for the utilities that service our building. And several of our walls are, in fact, well… green.
Connected to Our Community & Renaissance Zone
We value going local for self-reliant communities. We live nearby. Several of our employees commute on foot and on bike. We frequent the establishments of our neighborhood. We’ve even documented the history of our building and neighborhood for our community.
In 2003 Atomic Object moved into a Michigan RenZone and became part of a movement to renew the urban space surrounding Wealthy Street.
BitCamp
Despite popular perception, the most innovative and creative software opportunities remain here in the U.S. and will for a very long time to come. BitCamp is a day-long experience Atomic Object offers to middle school students to develop these vital renewable resources for the future.
XP West Michigan
Since we first opened our doors, Atomic Object has been a pioneering member of the Agile Methodologies movement. Agile techniques produce successful software and value where failure and waste have traditionally prevailed. XP West Michigan is the regional trade association we founded to further Agile adoption and provide a forum for local programmers to get better together.
Papers, Conferences, Open Source Software
Atomic Object regularly and freely contributes to the larger software development community. From testing libraries to papers on innovative approaches and best practices to conferences, it’s our desire to invest in the larger software community. We are most recently sponsors of the brand new Great Lakes Software Excellence Conference. Okay. Maybe we like to show off.
Sustainable Pace
Caffeine, all nighters, and empty pizza boxes: at least one of these things does not belong. Untested software, unrealistic schedules, and overly complex designs lead to long hours and exhausted people. Along with our proven development process, we practice sustainable pace – responsible working hours that promote balance and quality work. (We remain big fans of caffeine and pizza, though).
