Case Study

Priority Health HealthInSite

Summary

Priority Health is a nationally-recognized Michigan-based health insurance provider.

Priority Health needed an application that could aggregate millions of insurance claims data points and provide their plan holders with clear, actionable reports.

The poly-skilled team at Atomic was able to adopt a holistic view of the product and successfully interface with Priority Health’s horizontally split departments to get the application built in an efficient manner.

Challenge

As a large-scale health insurance provider, Priority Health sits on a massive amount of insurance claims data. Priority Health wanted to help employer purchasers manage their healthcare investment by showing them how their employees and their dependents are using health care services. Not only would HealthInSite need to provide intelligent analysis of gigabytes of data, it needed to do so while integrating with several existing databases and internal systems.

Not only was this project technically complex it also required the coordination of many resources (departments, people, budgets, etc.). As an outside vendor, Atomic needed to be able to effectively navigate through Priority Health’s existing structures and protocols.

Process

HealthInSite required the coordination of as many as 10 departments at Priority Health, including medical, underwriting, sales, legal, marketing, IT, and security. We streamlined the process for the various stakeholders so that HealthInSite could move through the stages of release quickly and with minimal strain placed on the customer’s internal resources. As new content and guidelines were supplied during development, we integrated these changes while constantly reviewing the product to ensure the vision came together coherently.

We managed our agile project schedule to support their internal business goals. Deploying weekly to production, and working with other internal departments, allowed us to spread out possible risks and familiarize Priority Health with the application. Our scope-controlled approach to projects allowed Priority Health to move up the completion date to meet an important quarterly meeting. Atomic adjusted the feature depth and scope so Priority could effectively demonstrate the application.
