Atomic Object releases Systir 0.1, an Open Source tool for designing test languages

Grand Rapids, MI – Atomic Object has released a new open source system test automation package called Systir (“System Testing In Ruby”).

Systir is written in Ruby, an exciting new language for the world of domain-specific and light syntax scripting. Systir allows a toolsmith/tester pair to rapidly develop application-specific system tests that read like human language. This new approach has advantages over other keyword testing frameworks because it retains the power of Ruby as an underlying scripting language without complicating the syntax of user-level tests.

The resulting tests can be easier to read, maintain and change while still being automated and self-contained.

The “In Ruby” part of Systir’s name doesn’t mean “just for Ruby”. In fact, the initial uses of Systir were for black-box web application testing via WATIR-scripted instances of Internet Explorer, as well as XML protocol-based testing of a Java server application. The power of Systir is its ability to give you domain-specific language to define your tests, no matter which programming language your target software is written in, or which platform it runs on.
