Small moves can bring big things.
December 1, 2003
Grand Rapids, MI – Atomic Object’s new office is less than a mile from its previous site, but in many ways the move was much bigger than that. Bigger, because they now own their own building. Bigger, because while they temporarily occupy the second floor of their new digs, the main floor is undergoing a complete face lift. And bigger, because they pulled out a secret card in the form of an employee who is highly qualified to do the design for their soon-to-be renovated office space.
Atomic Object’s new location at 941 Wealthy Street SE, near the corner of Diamond and Wealthy, was a former post office, and most recently housed a recording studio. Atomic employees are comfortably settled and back to business in the 97 year-old, 6,000 square foot building.
The upstairs was converted from an apartment to their current office space for an amazingly low cost. “The cost to make it workable up here was almost nothing,” remarked Atomic’s President, Carl Erickson, while looking over the open, spacious office. “It’s amazing what taking out a few walls and applying a coat of paint will do.”
The main floor renovation will be designed by Mary O’Neill, Atomic Object’s business manager. She is also an independent commercial interior designer, and formerly worked at Herman Miller in workplace design. The main floor construction will be performed by Bazzani Associates, contractors known for their environmentally sustainable building methods.
The mood is upbeat, business is going well, and Atomic Object has proven that big things do come from small packages, or from small moves at least.
